Well-Being of Future Generations Act (Wales)

Improving the economic, social, environmental and cultural well-being of the people of Blaenau Gwent is at the heart of the Public Service Board.  Previously known as the Local Service Board, it is a statutory board established by the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015.

The Board will contribute to the national well-being goals. These are:

  • A more prosperous Wales
  • A resilient Wales
  • A healthier Wales
  • A more equal Wales
  • A Wales of cohesive communities
  • A Wales of vibrant culture and thriving Welsh Language
  • A globally responsible Wales

 Its responsibilities include:

  • Preparing  and publishing  a well-being assessment for the Blaenau Gwent area,
  • Setting  local objectives designed to maximise the PSB’s contribution to the well-being goals
  • Publishing a well-being plan for the Blaenau Gwent area that sets out the Well-being objectives and the steps it intends to take to achieve them.

Sustainable development principles will be complied with. This means meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

The four statutory members of the Board are:

  • Blaenau Gwent Council
  • Aneurin Bevan University Health Board
  • South Wales Fire and Rescue Service
  • Natural Resources Wales

Other key partners have already joined the Board including:

  • Representative from Welsh Government

  • The Chief Constable of Gwent Police
  • Gwent Association of  Voluntary Organisations (GAVO)
  • Probation Services
  • Tai Calon

  • Natural Resources Wales

This presents an exciting opportunity for public services to work together and make a real difference to the communities we serve.

Our vision is:

“Working together to create the Blaenau Gwent our citizens want”

How the Board involves people who have an interest in the well-being of the area is pivotal to the plans. Whilst this forward looking work develops, the PSB will maintain a focus on delivering our promises within the single integrated plan. This will involve a review of existing delivery arrangements to ensure we are working together as effectively as we can to make a difference to the citizens of Blaenau Gwent.
